On October 18, 2024, Harbin Electric Power Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Harbin Electric") and Hunan SUND Technological Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "SUND Technology") successfully held a product appraisal meeting in Harbin for their jointly developed "Hualong One Reactor Coolant Pump Thrust Bearing." The meeting was organized by the China Machinery Industry Federation and the China General Machinery Industry Association. The "Hualong One Reactor Coolant Pump Thrust Bearing" was appraised as reaching the advanced international level for similar products.

Ms. Huang Li, President of the China General Machinery Industry Association, presided over the meeting. Mr. Sui Yongbin, Chief Engineer of the China Machinery Industry Federation, served as the head of the expert group for the appraisal committee. The appraisal committee consisted of experts from the China Machinery Industry Federation, China Nuclear Industry Construction Group Co., Ltd., CNNC Nuclear Power Operation Management Co., Ltd., CGN Nuclear Power Operation Co., Ltd., Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Mechanical Engineering, China National Nuclear Corporation New Energy Co., Ltd., Harbin Large Generator Research Institute, China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, and Shenzhen CGN Engineering Design Co., Ltd. Representatives from China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Power Zhangzhou Energy Co., Ltd., China Zhongyuan Foreign Engineering Co., Ltd., Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. in Guangxi, Harbin Electric Power Equipment Co., Ltd., and Hunan SUND Technological Corporation also attended the meeting.

The experts witnessed the product prototype and some tests on site, reviewed relevant technical documents, and listened to the research summary report and expert witness report at the meeting. After questioning and discussion, the appraisal committee concluded that the developed Hualong One reactor coolant pump thrust bearing has independent intellectual property rights, its main technical indicators have reached the advanced international level for similar products, and it can be promoted and applied.

The independent research and development of the "Hualong One reactor coolant pump thrust bearing" was initiated by Harbin Electric's signed demand for the domestic production of reactor coolant pump bidirectional thrust bearings. Through independent bearing design and analysis, prototype manufacturing, and experimental verification, the joint R&D team successfully mastered the key technologies of high-speed, high-load, and high-reliability nuclear main pump dynamic pressure sliding bearings and has the capacity for mass production.

This product represents another major breakthrough for SUND Technology following the completion of the prototype appraisal of the "Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Plant Hualong Series Nuclear Main Pump Bearing System" in April 2023, further expanding its product coverage in the main pump field. As the nuclear power industry enters a period of accelerated development, the "Hualong One reactor coolant pump thrust bearing" will be more widely used in subsequent "Hualong One" nuclear power projects, contributing to the achievement of "dual carbon" goals and providing key component support for the "going global" of China's million-kilowatt-class advanced nuclear power technology.
